    I was surprised that legal remedy was pursued. I would have thought the powers that be wouldn't care, nor the jury and the public, as the victim was poor and female. I'm happy to be wrong about that.

    Actually the patron saints of England, as decided in Church Councils, were: St. Cuthbert, Abbot and Bishop of Lindisfarne; St. Augustine of Canterbury; and Hieromartyr Boniface of Crediton,Devon, Archbishop of Mainz. The latter is also the patron saint of Germany. They long predate St. Edmund and remain the Orthodox Christian patrons of England. For further details I suggest you contact Dr. Anthony Moss, who writes under his baptismal name Vladimir. He has written extensively on English saints and other history from an Orthodox Christian viewpoint and is a founder member of St. Michael's Orthodox Parish, Guildford, which is in the diocese of Pallini and Western Europe of the True Orthodox Church of Russia. After the imposition of the Romanist heresy upon England by the wholly illegitimate, William the Bastard, blessed by Pope Alexander II, with financed through loans co-ordinated by the Jewish moneylenders of Rouen, who were given the right to settle in England, the Norman rulers pivoted England towards the Crusades, initially launched in response to a request for help from the Eastern Roman, aka Byzantine, Empire. Crusading armies sought the intercession of the great warrior saint, St. George, who was local to the area, during the successful siege of Antioch in 1099.

    You know taking a harder look at just how many liberties and how much renovation the Asters did to the original interior layout of the building ..... I'm actually quite surprised that the National Trust or 'Historic England' actually let him get away with half of what he did. I would assume that in today's world that the National Trust and or the English government would never let somebody do that kind of gutting of a historic property there in England anymore like that today? Am I right?

    • @thehistorysquad
      @thehistorysquad 14 часов назад

      I understand what you’re saying, but castle was pretty much derelict in 1903 and of course the National Trust and conservation organizations were in their infancy. You’re right though, it wouldn’t happen today. 👍

    • @manuellubian5709
      @manuellubian5709 14 часов назад

      @@thehistorysquad Yes, sir that is exactly what I thought. So I'm going to take a wild guess and I'm going to assume that because of instances like this and probably many others that it is the reason why the National Trust and the English government itself now has very strict, stringent rules in place as to what it will and will not allow to happen to so called, 'historic' properties.

    Hello Kevin, my great great grandfather in the 1800s was a trooper as the police were known then. You might have guessed it I’m Australian, well he was escorting a Mr Greene, not sure whether it was spelt that way because that was our family name only one was spelt Green. With his gold and they both were attacked by two axe wielding robbers. My great great grandfather was just hanging on to the nearest camp site, where they patched him up as best they could he then asked the men to help him back onto his horse and go back to the man he was escorting. When he got there he found the man murdered by the two. They were taken into custody and they had a trial for which they got off. The people of Melbourne demanded a retrial and they both were hanged. It’s only just a few years ago I found out that my great grandfather was awarded the Silver Star for being a hero , his story was also written about in a Penguin book I’m so proud of him . He went back to his family in Ireland to convalescence and when he was well he came back and rejoined the Victoria Police . ❤🇦🇺🐨🦘🇦🇺
